Reflection 3: The End of the Year

This is the final reflection before the final exam at the final part of the year.

1. I did a lot of things well. Like last reflection, I made sure that I did all of the assignments to the best I could do. Since the start of the year, I've tried to follow the directions I've been given, even it nobody else does. One assignment that I did well was the blog in general. I got all of the posts needed, and finished all of the small assignments I had to. The most important assignment that I want to mention is the Piclits. During the time Mr. Farely was out, I did my work when not one other person did. I finished the work and had it ready, only to find out that the rest of my group needed to have their own project on their blogs. They put together a very brief and lousy project, and I got it on half the blogs. Then, when that failed, I cleared it from everyone's blog and put the one I had done up on everyone else's. This was a mess, but because I decided to take charge, I got the project in.

2. Again, like last time, I just could not work together well. At the start of the year, nobody that I tried to work with seemed willing to help, with some rare exceptions (Connor and Sam). But it was still my fault for not being more outreaching, but when I tried to be, it still didn't quite work.

3. This year, I learned quite a bit. I learned about the blogger, about Microsoft word, and about the basic goals of computer applications. I learned how computers make an impact in this world, and how important they are. As for the Piclits, I learned quite a bit from the experience. For one, it confirmed my fears from the start that as the only nerd in the class, I'd do all the work and the others would leech off of me. It also made me realize that nobody in this class takes it seriously at all. If I was the only one who actually could be bothered to do something when there was a nice big fat 500 point assignment on the line, then I think that that shows something about the motivations of the others in this class.  The project was not even close to hard, yet the group made it hard.  So hey, it was at least a good learning experience.

Finally, let's close the year with the piclit.

Reflection #2

This is the second reflection. A lot has happened since the last term, and the class's tone has shifted. I like this change of pace, because now we are really learning.

1. I worked on my assignments well. I made sure to do them on time, and put in effort on almost everything.
2. I did not work together well. The people I worked with either did their own or didn't do anything at all.
3. I learned quite a bit about Microsoft Word, as well as creating fliers. For example, I learned how to insert various items into the text, how to use the shortcuts, basic formatting, and my favorite: Clippy's gruesome end.

The Full Word Essay

The last few posts were about Microsoft Word, and they were pieces of an essay I'd written for class. This is the full essay here. Sorry about the weird format.
Microsoft Word is a widely used word processor. Word was developed as part of the Microsoft office from the mid 1980s and early 90s. It quickly became widely used, and today is easily the #1 word processor on the planet.
Despite its name, Microsoft Word is usable on the Mac and Windows systems. It overtook Appleworks for Mac, and is firmly in place today. Currently, Word has two different sets of models, one for Macs and the other for PCs.
Word features a variety of keyboard shortcuts. The most important are listed below.

History                                                                                                      Word began in 1983 as Multi-tool Word. When Microsoft Office formed in 1984, Word became a part of it. Word quickly became quite popular, and in 1987 started a Mac Line as part of their Word 3.0 series. Before long, Word had taken over as the default worked processing unit, beating out Apple’s Macwrite.
In 1993, after the wildly successful Word 5.1, Word had gained permanent power. After the embarrassing 6.0 release, Word began to make consistent models, starting with Word 97.  Word 98 was released the following year, complete with Clippie, the lovable little helper that was killed off the following year. The 2000 model was Y2K proof, and following that came a string of similar models. Word 07 was the real changing model. It modified the format and shortcuts, and was much more. Word 08 is the current model for macs, while Word 2010 is the current model for the PC.

Impact
Since its breakthrough in 1984, Microsoft Word has ruled the industry of Word Processors. Out of all the word processors, Word has the most users and has maintained its power for over twenty years. As a result, the power of Word is simply epic. With Word, people can easily type essays, novels, and anything they want. They can upload it to the Internet or publish it. They can copy, they can fax, and they can work efficiently.
Microsoft Word is the word processor. It’s the one that made much of this revolutionary technology happen. Before Word, word processors were like computer typewriters. They could delete, print, and did work, but not well. Word was just one of dozens of word processors at the time, but it’s the only one that’s stuck. It took the ideas from other word processors and turned them into the best word processor. Without Word, the world of the word processor would be very different.

The Typing Site

Back before the blog, I had to do a series of typing exercises. This was the site: Sense lang. It has games, tests, and exercises. The test I took showed my score at around 43 to 46 words per minute, which isn't bad, but not that good either. Originally, my speed was around 30 wpm, which is terrible, so I have improved since the year began a month ago.  As for the site, the only other part of it that I've used is the game area, which has games ranging from easy to easier.

Reflection

Well, every few posts there will come a reflection for the class and what we have done so far. The format is always the same: What I did well(1), What I can improve(2), and what I learned(3).

1) I think I completed most of my assignments well.
2) I think I could improve my creativity (Blog no. 1? Really?)
3) I learned how to blog. Create, link, and post.

An Opposing Post

Continuing the "I like" series, this post is from someone who doesn't share the same view about music as me.

I hate music. It's always loud, obnoxious, and all sounds the same. People who make music have no lives, and none of them even have talent. Every song sounds the same, and even if you want to get any you have to dish out a load of money, or break the law to download it. The only possible good music is Opera and old classsical waltzes, or atonal classical music. If anyone wants to listen to Rock, it has to be Christian. Nothing else in music is any good.

Links.

This post is for something that I have to try. It will be linking. Let's say, to Wikipedia. Or Google. Stuff like that.

More about Music

This post is an extension on the second post. It is about music, again.

The first music that I really liked was whatever my parents would play for me, most notably, John Denver, whose music I completely hate today. But because I listened to it so much then, I became much more interested in music. So I started to listen to what my sister liked, which was hip hop. I didn't like it. At all. So I began to look for artists that I liked, starting with The Beatles. From there I went into my sister's music and found artists like Weezer, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, and Jack Johnson. Then my friend suggested a bunch of artists, so I looked into that, starting with Queen. In January, I met this one guy up at a camp who gave me a huge list of artists, and I made a chart out of his suggestions. It starts at The Beatles, ends at Radiohead, Bob Dylan, and Metallica. I started with Led Zeppelin, The Strokes, and Bright Eyes. Then, following the chart, I went to The Who, the White Stripes, AC/DC, and The Rolling Stones. Since then, I've looked back to Weezer, gotten into old bands like Big Star, The Zombies, and The Beach Boys, and newer bands like REM. I'm currently on Wilco. I won't be done with this music chart for a long time, and I'm fine with that, because when I leave the chart, there won't be many artists left that I would like at all.

Something That Don't Like

Somethings that I don't like are useless rules, disappointment, conformity, ignorance, peer pressure, annoying school projects, bad jokes, religious zealots, hippies, rednecks, stupid tv, excessively cheesy internet videos, trolls, liars, deceitful people, arrogant people, annoying people, nasty people, and excessively negative people.

Something that I like

My first assignment is about what I like to do. And I like to listen to music. I'll typically listen to Rock music, with almost no hip-hop, rap, dance, country, etc. My favorite bands are the Beatles and Led Zeppelin, But I also like dozens of other bands, from Wilco to AC/DC. I'm fine with most types of music, but Rock is definitely my favorite.

First Blog Post

Hello to the internet. This is my very first blog post, and my very first blog, hence the unimaginative name. I don't know if this blog will become anything, as it's just a school project for right now, but let's just see how it goes. So because it's a school project, almost all of the posts over the next several months will be for school. After that, who knows.
