The Final!

Repost from The One Post

A. What did you do well this year during Computer Applications?
I did multiple things well. I did almost all of my assignments, and did not disrupt the class. Even when people would pester me, I would not disturb the class. I also did many jobs well. When my account went down, I was sent out on assignments, and I made sure not to disappoint anyone, and did every job as I could. I then made sure to get the account put back up, and then did the assignments that I had to do.
B. What could you have done better?
I could have payed more attention. As the year went on, my attention span in the class slipped, as I got more bored and impatient with the class. I should have listened and my assignments would have been better if I had payed attention. The largest problem was that I had to tune everyone out with my ipod, because they would constantly harass me, and in doing so I blocked out the entire class.
C. What did you learn?
I learned about certain applications in the class. While my knowledge of Google products, powerpoint, and Microsoft Word did not change, I learned a lot about photoshop, having only done layering and coloring before the application was deleted from my computer. I also learned a lot about MS Publisher, which I hadn't even heard of before this class. I also learned a bit about cover letters and excel.

Re: 100 Posts

Out of the year, I would rank my performance in the class at a high A to a low B, depending on the time of year. At the start, when my account got back up, I consider my work done then to be at a low A, as I did what I had to do to get my grade back up. The stuff at the middle of the semester is the best, as I did the assignments quite well and turned them in. But by the end of the year, the quality of my work slipped and I began turning in assignments later. This is mostly due to a loss in patience. But if I were to compile all my scores into one single number, I would declare it a 94/100.

The Final Reflection

What did I learn from this class?

I learned a good deal about Photoshop.
I knew a bit about photoshop before I entered the class, but when I got my computer updated the program was erased. So, I learned the bulk of my knowledge from this class. Besides layering and coloring, I learned everything in class.

I learned how to use new features in Microsoft Excel.
Like photoshop, my knowledge of this application was limited. I did know more about it than photoshop, though. I discovered multiple ways of using equations and such in class that I did not know about before.

I learned how to use Microsoft Publisher.
I had never heard of Microsoft Publisher before this class, so everything I did with it was new as compared with the previous two applications. The application is simple and easy to use, and I did learn from it.

Time Tracker Reflection

This is the reflection of the time tracker that I made.

What are three things you did well with your time tracker?
1. I kept track of the time for the most part.
2. I made sure to update it whenever I could.
3. I kept the time tracker in an easy-to-reach spot in my documents.

What are three things you could have done better with the time tracker?

1. I could have updated it daily instead of every couple of days.
2. I could have done the format differently, using a more efficient or better laid out plan.
3. I could have put more detail in.

What are three things you learned while doing the time tracker?

1. I learned how to track time during class.
2. I learned that, according to the tracker, I'm either lazy or very fast at my assignments.
3. I learned that the Wednesday block really was as pointless as I previously thought.

Survey

Here is the survey I made last week. It's about the class and is directed at the students.

What do you think of this class?

Reflection 5: Block Schedule

What do you like about Block Schedules?
The block schedule's main advantage for me was waking up later on Wednesdays and getting out at lunch on Tuesday. I liked it when I spent more time in my favorite classes. I did prefer it for science class and AP Euro, because there was more time in class for labs and work, but for math and french the class would drag on and never end.

What would you improve about Block Schedules?
There's not much to improve. The schedule is set at the best possible configuration for block schedule, as it there were three days it would throw the weeks off, and if there were 4 days it would become far too dull. The way the schedule is lined up within the day itself is fine too, as it isn't too similar to normal schedule, but is similar enough so that it doesn't disrupt the flow of the day. There aren't many changes that can be made.

What did you learn by having Block Schedules?
The block schedule made me approach school in a different way. At Sinaloa, my middle school, the schedule would change differently, making it a bit harder to go to each class. Now, the block acts n a much different way than the mixing schedule. I prefer it.

Online Manners Review

These are my comments for this list of online etiquette practices rules on the site Common Sense.

7 Rules for Online Etiquette
Context is everything. I agree with this point. Context is very important online, especially with family and friends.
Double-check before you hit "send." This point I know firsthand from seeing other people get into arguments they could avoid, and myself getting into a loud dumb Youtube argument once.
Take the high road (but don't boast about it). This one conflicts me a little more, as flame wars are fun to get into every now and then. Still, one might want to avoid them, so this rule does often apply.
Grammar rules. Idiots who cannot use grammar or spelling online are always the funniest. I once chatted with a person who couldn't use proper spelling or punctuation while he ranted against improper grammar use. Misusing grammar online is acceptable, but if one cannot actually use the English language to a certain point, they will come off as an idiot.
Keep a secret. This one is another good point. Avoiding posting personal data, or as the article says, something that can spark drama, is a very wise choice indeed.
Don't hide. Anonymous people generally tend to be harmless, but they are too often trolls. Anonymity can come off as an attempt to troll, so yes, one should avoid anonymity.
Remember the Golden Rule. This one I don't agree with. While face to face etiquette is definitely based around this rule, online etiquette is much different. Generally people who are very sensitive online will sign off at sudden harassment, and only be truly bullied if it continues. Without face-to-face interaction, there is no real need to be super polite. Online, people don't need to follow the golden rule. If they did, it would be a very boring place.

Excel, Part 1

Microsoft Excel, with the schedule and the like. Questions:

How should the form look?
The form will have date on the left, then will show the time the work started, ended, and the total. The final column will show how much time was done in the week, with the time from the previous days added on.

What categories should be included?
The categories should be date, time the work started, time the work ended, total time of work for the day, total time of work for the week.

How will you track your time?
I use the computer clock or my watch. For example, today I started working at 1:12. I plan to finish working at about 2:20. Whenever I am about t finish, I chronicle the time in the sheet.

How can you be accurate?
I put in the starting time and the ending time when I start and end.

What are the obstacles to being honest and accurate?
It's more difficult that merely sitting around, making up times.

Is this difficult?
No. It's merely annoying.

Before and After

These are the 3 photos before photoshop:

And here they are after:

1. I cropped the billboard, them used a blur filter.

2. I cropped the stage just to show the group of people underneath, then used a sharpen filter.

3. I cropped the capitol building so that it would show enough sky and as little of the crowd and stage, then used a sketch filter to turn it into a painting.

The DC Photos

The DC photos

These are the first two photos, unchanged.

Here are the four photos after I used photoshop on them:

1. This one was a simple crop. I made it to match a photo I took of the same monument last July.

2. Another crop, this one is meant to show the main tower itself. I then used the blur filter.

3. Meant to show the White House by itself. I then added the texture filter.

4. The final one, meant to show the White House and sky with as little to the sides as I wished.

Reflection 4: The Winter Grading Period

1.
• I did several assignments well.
• I made sure to get my account reactivated.
• I had a very good conversation about expectations.

2.
• I didn't go to the district office as soon as I should have.
• I never did finish all of my assignments.
• I could've done more during the time that I was left without an account.

3.
• I learned a little about MS Publisher during this time
• the general expectations of the class.
• Besides one intelligent conversation, I learned almost nothing new that I didn't already know, mostly due to my dead NUSD account.

MS Publisher

These are the three projects that I've done for MS publisher.

Project 1: Business card

Project 2: Greeting Card

Project 3: Newsletter

Expectations

These are the expectations that I have for myself.

1. I expect myself to do well in school and act as an intelligent person.
2. My friends expect me to do two things. One group expect me to be the quiet kid, and the other group expects me to have very thoughtful discussions.
3. My family expects me to be thoughtful and independent.

These are the reversed expectations for myself.

1. To go against my expectations, I would bomb all my work and not try, do drugs, and not have any intelligence.
2. My friends would see me as the loud obnoxious kid who is extremely popular, while never uttering anything more intelligent that something pond scum could come up with.
3. My family would see me going out every night to party and disobeying absolutely everything they say.

25 Years Ago(Would be Posted on January 28)

25 years ago to January 28, the Challenger Shuttle broke up and fell into the ocean, killing all members on board. The Challenger disaster had huge impacts on the space industry, such as scaring away potential explorers, freezing NASA's shuttle program for well over a year, and stopping space exploration for over a year.
The computers used were the primitive 1980s computers which were unable to handle everything that it was given. The computers still did their job, as the main factor that led to the breakup was the O-ring, which fell apart when the shuttle took off.
Since then, computers have gotten much more advanced, and the next major disaster in space, Columbia, happened due to a foam-seam issue, not a computer issue. 25 years before Challenger, computers were very, very primitive, and they were barely strong enough during Apollo.

TED talk video

This is the video from the TED talk.

1. Comp. Apps is related to math because programming skills require a lot of math.
2. Comp. Apps is related to math because computers must act like calculators.
3. Comp. apps is related to math because mathematics and statistics are used daily on the Internet.
4. From the video, I learned that mathematics has a lot less to do with calculating than I previously thought.
